LifeStyle Updates : First 1000 EZ Link Wallet Rewards

  • Just got rewarded $2 into EZ-Link e-Wallet.
  • Fastest finger first survey. One of the reasons to turn on all notifications for mobile applications.

LifeStyle Updates : KFC Whack A Chicken

  • $8 off e-Voucher is good. It's applicable for all types of purchases (Online, Takeaway, Delivery) too.
  • But it's hard to get the required points. At least 1000 points to have a chance.
  • Games also seem to be random with the chicks' types. (Blue chick awards the most points) So sometimes it feels like 1000 points is not doable.

  • When purchases are > $10, scan with ShopperLink app to get points.

Rewards Updates : CrowdTask

  • New Government platform to answer questions, submit budget meals and claim points for NETs QR discounts.
  • The questions are usually simple. Although you could be identified since it is via SingPass login, some people may provide "fake" responses.
  • Budget meal submissions are cool. Needs more people to do submissions and verifications.

Lifestyle Updates : Apple Subscriptions Increase

Bad news on the savings front for casual gamers to play different variety games.

Arguably the cheapest gaming package for casual gamers, Apple Arcade has increased its price by 42%. Ouch.

I subscribed to the annual deal at $69.98. The new annual deal will likely be $99.98.

Will monitor its closest competitor Netflix games to see if it gets better value there.

But I enjoy playing on the Mac with 8bitdo controller which Netflix games currently do not support =/

Budget Tracking : Manual vs Using Apps

I love and support new tech. It's part of the reason why I'm still in IT field.

When it comes to tech's application to Personal Finance, it's tricky.

Started to use MS Excel many years ago along with usage of Yahoo Finance, moved to Google Finance but back to Yahoo Finance when Google Finance temporarily ceased...

Moved on from MS Excel to Apple iCloud Numbers in recent years.

Tried many FinTech apps along the way e.g. Wally, Seedly, DBS NAV Planner, etc. At the end of day, nothing really beats excel-like apps.

Recently, a Singapore start-up created Dobin app, https://www.dobin.io/
Loaded bank transactions and noticed that the app recognise my T-Bill application as a transfer. Tried to change it to investment but there's no such option... My guess it will be fixed sometime in future.

The app does look promising. It recommends you deals, etc based on your spendings.
All these innovations are great. But there's still a need to browse through the data and manually make sense of your income & expenditure.

What Centralised Cryptocurrency Exchanges to use for Cost Savings

https://www.finder.com/sg/cryptocurrency/exchanges

I started my crypto journey using centralised exchanges such as CoinHako, Gemini and Independent Reserve. Since the crypto centralised exchange crisis, the perks of using these services are getting lesser and lesser.

To some extent, direct purchases via hardware wallets like Ledger saves the hassle of transferring here and there. The blockchain network fees for each exchange keeps changing just like bank credit card terms and conditions.

Bottom line is fewer and fewer promotions are available now in crypto exchanges due to crypto winter making it not worth the time to bother about it.

For Lending Centralised Platforms, I've lost some crypto in Celsius bankruptcy. Pulled out all holdings from Nexo, CoinLoan, CoinHako and Hodlnaut earn programmes.

I still have some crypto left in CakeDefi, technically still considered centralised, but centralised exchanges are no longer the focus.

Strategy right now is to have majority in Ledger, some in altcoin blockchain's default defi staking services and some in other defi platforms.

What Brokerage to use for Cost Savings

https://www.singsaver.com.sg/blog/best-brokerage-account-singapore

https://blog.moneysmart.sg/invest/investment-brokerage-singapore-guide/

https://blog.seedly.sg/cheapest-brokerage-singapore-comparison/

It's hard to say which brokerage is best to use for all your trades. Tons of blogs will show you their differences.

In my opinion, just like how you would diversify your portfolio. It's best you spread your holdings across several brokerage services in case any of them collapse and you need to perform a transfer.

Also, global digitalisation introduce many brokerages into Singapore. Most of them will come with welcome bonus with specific criteria which are usually easy to complete.

Currently I'm using the below,

  1. DBS Vickers
  2. Standard Chartered
  3. MooMoo
  4. Tiger Brokers
  5. Syfe
  6. uSmart
  7. WeBull
  8. EndowUS
  9. Interactive Brokers

I log in MooMoo and Tiger Brokers daily to get reward points to redeem gifts.

Tiger Brokers Stock Vouchers are particularly attractive rewards. But they get redeemed very fast, you have to stalk the page around 10am to get them.

An issue with using multiple brokerages is the hassle of tracking and updating your dividends. But it's easy once you figure out how for each app. Just do it once per month to save time.

https://yolofomo101.blogspot.com/2023/03/referral-codes.html

Would greatly appreciate to use my referrals should you decide to use any of the brokerage services.

Thanks!

What eWallets and ePayments to use for Cost Savings

https://www.dbs.com.sg/personal/deposits/pay-with-ease/paylah-5-million-hawker-meals

Today I experienced the dreaded error from trying to claim my $3 rebate from on-going DBS Paylah promotion during lunchtime.

Over the years, there have been various ePayment and eWallet promotions via different means.
When it works, you feel great. When it fails, you frustrate and will resist to use again.

But Patience and Perseverance will save you $$ in the long run.
Trying out the different promotions is a guarantee way to save money especially when technology is simply getting better and better each year.
Cash is the worst choice.

My usual payment workflow is:

Option 1. ShopeePay or ShopBack

In many shops, these 2 payment methods will offer the most points or dollar cash back offers.

Option 2. XNAP

XNAP is great way to utilise credit card using SGQR.

Option 3. POSB Everyday Credit Card and PayLah

I use this because of DBS Multiplier and POSB Sheng Siong discount. Credit cards from different banks all give different ways to earn.

Option 4. Trust Bank, FavePay, GrabPay, AtomePay, Nestia UnionPay, CapitaStar, etc.

In cases where all the above are not available, I try to find all other ePayments.

How to use Mcdonald's, Shopperlink & Malls Apps for Cost Savings

https://www.allsgpromo.com/mcdelivery-promotion/

https://www.sgdtips.com/mcdonalds-singapore-latest-meal-coupons/

Most parents go McDonalds frequently for their children.

There's a few ways to get some savings.

1. Look at promotion websites for promo codes.

https://apps.apple.com/sg/app/mcdonalds/id1217507712

2. Use McDonalds mobile application.

Enter promo codes, if any, from promotion websites.

Play the game daily to get new deal. Game resets daily at 12am SG Time.

Give feedback and get 1 reward. There's a limit of rewards you can get per month. Currently 5 times.

Most McDonalds deals require you to tie with a purchase. So, split up your purchases using the self-service kiosk.

For each purchase, you need to manipulate the amount based on where you are buying McDonalds from.

3. Use the relevant shopping mobile application based on which McDonalds you are at.

For heartland malls, use shopperlink.

For established malls, use the real estate company's mobile application. Some big players' links above.

Every mall has their own terms and conditions. So, you have to find and read the sometimes long-winded text πŸ˜….

How to use Shopee Trick with Trust Bank for Additional Interest

Have successfully gotten 2% higher interest after spending 5 Shopee transactions on 6 Mar.

Toast Box and BreadTalk vouchers are actually worth purchasing if you are an office worker who patronized them. Although this means you cannot use https://toastbox.com.sg/promotions/ e.g. 50 Cups Kopi e-Package @ $75 and receive a free $10 e-Voucher

You can buy and use them up separately to fulfill the 5 transactions. Shopee does not allow you to buy and use 5 same store vouchers all at once, and they expire 3 days after purchase.
